What’s up hockey freaks – quick little update here for ya…
First off, Charlotte is a pretty cool spot – bummed that we don’t come back here the rest of the season. I will say that it definitely helps that we’re right downtown and that our hotel is located in an area that is loaded with bars and restaurants, a movie theater, all kinds of good spots for lunch (Jason’s Deli anyone?), etc. Did I mention there are some bars nearby?
Anyway on to the ice – the Aeros practiced here yesterday, focusing on their penalty kill, backchecking (or tracking as they call it nowadays) and their breakouts. Head coach John Torchetti told me the team needed to work on the PK because “we’re not number one yet” (the Aeros are ranked 7th currently).
After practice there was a team meal at the Capital Grille…and needless to say, it was outstanding. I sat with Jeff Penner, Chay Genoway, Justin Fontaine and Mike Bartlett. Great food and good conversation – GM Jim Mill addressed the team and a good time was had by all. Genoway is an absolute beauty by the way (hockey term).
As for tonight, Drew Bagnall will make his season debut and the aforementioned Bartlett will play his first game with the Aeros, suiting up alongside Casey Wellman and Jarod Palmer.
Jeff Penner is the odd man out on defense with the return of Bagnall, while Bartlett gets an opportunity because of the four-game suspension that Carson McMillan received for his hit last Saturday against the San Antonio Rampage. I don’t agree with the four game penalty – too steep in my opinion – but they don’t pay me to agree with the AHL on infractions, so I will digress.
Here’s the Aeros lineup for tonight:
The broadcasts for tonight and tomorrow’s games start at 5:50 pm CST. Don’t forget you can listen for FREE via the TuneIn radio app…search Houston then 1070 KNTH.
I’ll try to crush another blog next week as the Aeros will wrap up their third straight three-in-three weekend.
