Since the Aeros play another Kid’s Day game on Thursday, I thought it’d be fun to find out what time some of the guys have had to get up for games when they were kids.I think most every one who has played hockey has some sort of early morning practice story.
From there, the conversation morphed into breakfast favorites and airport grub, which is fitting considering all the flights the Aeros have had this season. Not to mention, but the team flies to Milwaukee (actually Chicago, then buses to Milwaukee) after the game tomorrow.
A more complete version of the conversations will be posted on AEROS.COM at some point on Thursday and includes chats with five different players.
WHAT’S THE EARLIEST YOU’VE EVER HAD TO GET UP FOR A GAME?
I think when I was younger in California there wasn’t a lot of ice so we were playing games at six or seven in the morning. CASEY WELLMAN
In minor hockey we’d platy 7:30 games at the Oakbank Arena. I’d be up watching cartoons before that. I’m not sure exactly what time, probably 5:30 . DREW BAGNALL
THE KIDS GET PRETTY LOUD AT THESE GAMES. DO YOU RECOMMEND EARPLUGS?
It does get pretty loud and high pitched but that’s the atmosphere of that day so, no earplugs.
WHAT’S YOUR TYPICAL BREAKFAST?
Usually some eggs, maybe some yogurt and granola and some sort of juice.
DUNKIN’ DONUTS, TIM HORTON’S OR STARBUCKS FOR YOUR COFFEE FIX?
You know what, I’ve never had coffee. CASEY WELLMAN
Probably Tim Horton’s. When you get to have it it’s a treat. DREW BAGNALL
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AIRPORT BREAKFAST PLACE?
If there’s ever a Jamba Juice I’ll head there and the closest place that has a ham, egg and cheese sandwich. CASEY WELLMAN
I do a lot of Panda Express, it’s always a go-to spot. CODY ALMOND
