Welcome to St. Paul…

It’s been almost two years (or maybe it’s been slightly more) since the Aeros last stopped in St. Paul to “visit” Xcel Energy Center and their parent club here in Minnesota.  And even though I was on the trip a couple seasons ago, it’s still pretty exciting and cool for me to spend some time in the plush NHL digs of the Wild and get to see a lot of the staff, etc.  Everyone here is so freakin’ friendly and they take great care of us…

Assistant coach Darryl Sydor is “kind of a big deal around here”, especially since the St. Louis Blues are the Wild’s opponent tonight.  Sydor spent all of last season with the Blues, playing in 47 games, registering eight assists.  So needless to say, every person this morning with the Blues’ organization from John Davidson to Darren Pang to Al MacInnis had to stop and see “Syd”.

Al MacInnis

I had a chance to catch up with former Aeros’ defensemen Jared Spurgeon and Clayton Stoner this morning – they were two of the few Wild players that participated in the optional skate this morning.   (A lengthy chat with Stoner will be up on the multimedia page of aeros.com shortly.)

With the Wild’s win last night in St. Louis and the Aeros victory in Peoria, it was another great night for the entire organization – the Wild have won eight of their last 10, meanwhile the Aeros are 8-1-0-1 in their last 10 contests.

Much more from Minnesota over the next 24+ hours, including a view from the press box from the Wild tilt tonight.   Keep checking aeros.com for updates and don’t forget that tomorrow’s Aeros game will be streamed live on aeros.com and wild.com.   And if you’re not following me on Twitter at aero_joe, you should start – I’m posting behind-the-scenes pictures from the trip all weekend long.
