Since I haven’t blogged since 1962 (or more precisely, a few weeks) I thought I’d get back at it and just kind of throw some thoughts and stats your way….
So, in my estimation, here’s what’s most pressing / intriguing with the Aeros;
- 0-8: That’s the Aeros record in games that go past regulation – even if they went .500, that’s 4 points that they could have, which would put them 3 puts clear of any other team in the AHL.
- 4: The Aeros number of regulation losses – no other team in the last 4 AHL seasons has had as few as 4 regulation losses this late in a season (calendar-wise).
- The Revolving Door: I’m going to refer to the team’s roster as “The Revolving Door” until things calm down in Minnesota. My first season with the club, back in 08-09, there might not have been 10 call-ups all year. So far this season, 9 DIFFERENT skaters have been recalled + goaltender Matt Hackett and almost 50 Wild games have been logged by 2011-2012 Aeros. It’s great for the prospects and a “feather in the cap” for the organization. And to be honest, it’s makes the Aeros’ impressive start to this season even more unbelievable.
- The PP: Aeros’ head coach John Torchetti has talked all season about how specialty teams – specifically, a team’s power play can help swing / gain momentum for a team…and lately, that hasn’t been happening. Torchetti thinks the lack of continuity with the team’s personnel has played a major factor in the recent man advantage struggles, but that being said, I know the staff believes in the guys that are being put in power play roles and they expect more moving forward.
The next few games are absolutely huge for the Aeros – beginning with the Texas Stars tonight, and prior to the “Holiday Break”, the Aeros play 3 division games and a conference foe in Rochester that currently has 11 wins. Heading into a few days off for the holidays with some momentum is big for the Aeros as they continue to battle through injuries and NHL call-ups.
Happy Holidays to all the Aeros’ fans out there…
