Aeros’ Preseason Slate Opens Tomorrow Night…
Tomorrow night the Aeros open up their two-game preseason slate with a tilt in Oklahoma City against the Barons. Game time is 7 pm from the Cox Convention Center. There will be no Aeros’ broadcast, in fact, I’m not even making the trip.
However, I’ve been told that the game will be on AHL Live and that the Barons are broadcasting the game.
With that said, here are a few notes from training camp today:
- The only two goaltenders in town most of the week were Darcy Kuemper and Dennis Endras. Endras has been here for a couple of days now, Kuemper has been here all week. Matt Hackett arrived on the scene today. Both Kuemper and Endras will be making the trip to OKC – I’m guessing Kuemper will get the start.
- Jeff Taffe has made it to Houston and skated this morning for the first time in an Aeros’ sweater.
- Found out yesterday, that rookie D-man Chay Genoway’s last name is actually pronounced “ghen-oh-way”. Not much of a note, unless of course you are a radio broadcaster or PR employee.
- The Aeros are bringing and dressing 20 skaters and the 2 aforementioned netminders for the game tomorrow night – the team bus departs in about 45 minutes from now.
- Those players that aren’t playing in OKC will practice tomorrow in Sugar Land at 10:30 a.m. (open to the public) under the tutelage of former Aeros’ head coach and current Rio Grande Valley (CHL) head coach Terry Ruskowski. “Rosco” has been at camp the last few days – always a pleasure to chat with him…
Here’s the Aeros traveling roster and projected lineup for tomorrow night’s affair, beginning with the forwards:
Kris Foucault – Chad Rau – Justin Fontaine
Greg Stewart – Carson McMillan – Mike Kramer
Matt Marquardt – David McIntyre – Mike Bartlett
Mike Hoffman – Joel Broda – J.P. Martignetti
Extra Forward: Aaron Boogaard
D:
Chay Genoway – Kris Fredheim
Kyle Medvec – Sam Lofquist
Jamie Fritsch – Wes O’Neill
Extra D: Tyson Dowzak
Look for a larger portion of the Aeros’ “regulars” to play in Austin on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm. I will be on that trip, and will provide a blog and some audio from the coaching staff, etc. – thus, make sure to stay current on aeros.com.
On a side note, I’m pretty stoked about the videos we shot this week for the Aeros’ Youtube page / in-game, fan entertainment. Nothing out of the ordinary video-wise, but some fun segments that will give you a little insight into some of the players’ interests off the ice.
That’s all for now – catch ya in Austin on Sunday.
